Holiday 2020

Nothing but Joy

December 9, 2020

I have declared there is nothing but joy happening at this house for the rest of the year! Today, I am taking you on a little tour of some favorite spots in our home and sharing some of our traditions. This year has brought more challenges than we ever could of dreamed, but one of the ways we can continue to find joy is to focus on the fact that we are here and healthy and to celebrate what we do have. Choosing joy is so important every single day and the holidays are a little reminder of that. A chance to hit reset and share the light with others.

We may not be able to physically be with all of those that we love for the holidays this year but we choose to remain positive. Just think of the celebrations we will have in the years to come! I hope you enjoy seeing some of the things we hold dearest in our hearts and that you have your own traditions that bring you comfort and happiness.

My girls drinking hot cocoa from my Grammie’s Santa Mugs. We get them out every year!
Fresh greenery and eucalyptus garland. I love a holiday staircase.
You can never have too many candles at the holidays!
Little touches of greenery, even in the kitchen.

This year we decided to make dough ornaments with the help of our 13 year old yellow lab, Izzy! This easy art project is fun and safe for kids and dogs. She was the best helper and now we have a memory of her that will last forever. The recipe is below. My girls used cookie cutters for additional shapes and acrylic paints to decorate the ornaments once they were cool.

Papa’s vintage train from Hall’s at Crown Center circa 1975. Still runs like a dream and circles our tree.

One of my absolute favorite tradition of the holidays is one we do every Christmas Eve morning. Before all the craziness of the day begins, we make reindeer pancakes. We started this breakfast tradition when my oldest was six. It’s a lot of fun and I know they secretly look forward to it no matter how old they get!

I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and that 2001 is filled with love, joy and hope for you and your family!
